 One of the contestants |
Miss Gibraltar, Kaiane
Aldorino, was in a celebratory mood after being named Miss World Beach Beauty
at the
Valley of the Pools at Zimbali Estate in Kwazulu Natal. This 23-year-old beauty made history today when she
became the first Gibraltarian ever to reach the top round of the Miss World
contest.
The Beach Beauty contest, held
in association with Dax Martin swimwear, is one of five individual fast
track events held before the final of the Miss World on December 12 at
Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand with the winners of each of the
individual contests automatically going into the semi-finals.
Twenty gorgeous girls were
chosen to take part in the Miss World Beach Beauty contest after being chosen
at preliminary heats. Their fabulous gold bikinis were specially created by
renowned South African swimwear designer Dax Martin.
Martin explained his
inspiration: “I drew on African Renaissance as a theme and certainly the
abundance of beautiful, majestic landscapes South Africa
provides as a backdrop, have influenced my designs. Of course, at the
core of our great nation, we find gold.”
Kaiane is currently working
as an administrative clerk and her hobbies include netball and training in the
gym. She has been dancing since a very young age and her proudest moment was
representing her country in the World Dance Championships in Riesa, Germany.
She describes herself as confident, determined and caring and her personal
motto is “Live each moment to the full and appreciate everything in life”.
Second
in the Miss World Beach Beauty was Miss Panama,
Nadege Herrera Vasquez (23) with Miss Scotland, Katharine Brown (22) in
third spot.
Miss Gibraltar now joins Miss Japan Eruza Sasaki (Miss World
Sportswoman) and Miss Canada Yanbing Ma and Miss Sierra Leone Mariatu Kargbo
(joint Miss World Talent Show winners) in the final rounds of the Miss World
competition.
The remaining 108
contestants still have a chance to be fast-tracked if they win one of the
remaining two events – Miss World Fashion (Saturday, November 28 at the Turbine
Hall in Johannesburg) and Miss World Beauty with a Purpose (to be announced at
the Miss World finale on Saturday, December 12 at Gallagher Convention Centre).
The City of Johannesburg is hosting the Miss World
spectacle for the second year running and showcasing the city to a worldwide
audience of more than a billion.
